In the 21st century, we are on the threshold of a brand-new understanding of health. We have already moved beyond a healthcare model that sees the human body as a machine, toward a Holistic Health approach that also includes physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. We now know very well that our mental, emotional, and spiritual health directly affects our physical health.
Holistic Medicine is a complementary, holistic medical approach that includes effective, scientific, and natural methods alongside the diagnostic and treatment methods of modern medicine. The aim is to use primarily the most natural methods with the fewest side effects in solving health problems, and instead of temporarily eliminating only disease symptoms, to treat by addressing the root causes. Therefore, holistic medicine is not an alternative to modern medicine; it is a broader health model that also includes it.
The World Health Organization defines health as a complete state of physical, mental, spiritual, and social well-being. It is not enough to be physically well alone. We can improve health by enriching our way of thinking, our spiritual perspective, and our social environment. Protecting the balance of mind, body, and spirit is very important.
A favorite Indian proverb of mine describes Holistic Health beautifully: “Each of us is a house with four rooms: mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional. Unless we enter every room every day, we are not complete.” I believe a holistic perspective is very important for a healthy life. Today, 80% of our diseases are chronic diseases. We cannot solve diseases by treating only the signs (symptoms).

During the period when I worked as an intensive care specialist, I dealt with the treatment of very severe and chronic diseases. For example, in one bed I had a patient who had undergone surgery on three heart vessels, and in another bed a patient who had undergone surgery on a single vessel. My patient who had three-vessel surgery was cheerful and pleasant. He would even say, ‘Doctor, can you send me the prettiest nurse?’ These patients recovered very quickly and left intensive care after a few days. But unhappy people who complained about everything, even though they had only a single-vessel issue, recovered slowly. I observed this almost every day. That is why holistic methods of healing are so important. Sleeping well, eating well, living a sufficiently active life, and turning inward to resolve the negativity and emotions in your inner world accelerate healing. From intensive care patients and their relatives, I always heard the word ‘if only.’ If only he had quit smoking, if only, if only. In fact, with a holistic perspective, we can live without having to say if only, even without getting sick.
I am often asked for a formula to get rid of physical and mental illnesses. When evaluated from a holistic perspective, what we do before getting sick is much cheaper and easier.
What Can You Do To Be Healthy Physically, Mentally, And Spiritually?
- Healthy and balanced nutrition comes first for a healthy life. In this way, even cancer risk can decrease by up to 40 percent. In addition to healthy eating, staying away from smoking and alcohol is also important. What you eat and drink affects your mood in the same way.
- You should take care to drink quality and alkaline water. Dehydration causes many diseases. Water is the simplest but most effective medicine for us. To start the day well, you can do a very simple and effective practice. A few glasses of lemon water can help with stomach and skin problems, strengthen your immune system, and help you relax by clearing toxins.
- Along with balanced nutrition, you should make exercise a habit. We constantly talk about the importance of physical activity for our physical and mental health. Unfortunately, many people ignore the fact that a healthy life begins with being active throughout the day. Physical inactivity ranks ahead of obesity among risk factors causing death worldwide. Exercise prevents weight gain, and therefore diabetes and high blood pressure; it can even prevent diseases by strengthening immunity.
- Regular health check-ups are necessary for taking early precautions regarding diseases. Do not neglect your check-ups.
- We should pay great attention to our sleep routine. Sleep is an important time of discharge for both our body and our spirit. You should finish eating 4-5 hours before sleep. You should stay away from screens before bedtime. One hour before sleep, you can drink chamomile tea, linden tea, or warm milk if it suits you, read a book to relax, or listen to calming music.

- Trying to reduce stress and learning to manage stress are also very important. Physical, mental, and spiritual purification methods at regular intervals (such as meditation, subconscious work, prayer) strengthen us.
- Our thoughts and emotions affect us in every area of life. We should get rid of negative thinking patterns and try to cleanse ourselves of the negative sentences we use. The films you watch, the news you follow, and the things you talk about also directly affect your mood.
- Reading books regularly reduces stress and depression, increases empathy and communication power, strengthens memory, relieves boredom, and expands imagination. Being interested in things you love and making time for your hobbies is important for nourishing your soul.
- Getting closer to nature, placing your feet on the ground, and breathing clean air will help you move away from negative energies.
- Love is the cure for everything. Smiling often, hugging our loved ones, building friendships and beautiful memories heals us, and may even help prevent illness.
In my clinic, with my personalized Holistic Health Management practices including Functional Medicine Applications, Hypnotherapy, Bio Regulation Therapy (BRT), Magnetic Field Therapy, and Holistic Psychotherapy, I aim for health in the holistic sense.
Hypnotherapy is a psychotherapy method based on hypnosis that creates subconscious change in the most effective and lasting way. In many areas such as excess weight, sleep problems, sexual problems, smoking, alcohol, drug and medication addictions, phobias, anxiety, panic attacks, procrastination, anger, pain, and personality patterns, we can contribute to holistic healing by integrating hypnotherapy with psychotherapy.
