Vaginismus is the condition in which sexual intercourse is painful or intercourse cannot occur because of fear, as a result of the involuntary contraction of the muscles surrounding the entrance of the vagina. The contraction experienced in vaginismus is involuntary and is never under the woman’s own control. We encounter this condition in almost one out of every 10 women. Of course, there are many reasons for this condition. Especially the negative attitudes of parents toward sexuality are an important reason. Girls raised by parents who think that sexuality is shameful, forbidden, sinful often experience this problem later. Vaginismus mostly occurs during the first attempt at sexual intercourse or during a gynecological examination. During attempts to have intercourse, it can appear in different forms, from a mild contraction to a widespread contraction throughout the whole body, at that moment anxiety, fear, a panic state, the legs being tightly closed to the extent that they prevent opening, or even pushing the spouse away with the hand. Women with vaginismus generally believe that their vagina is small, that it is too narrow to take the penis inside. Whereas the vagina is the most flexible organ in the body. Because during birth it needs to widen up to about 10–12 cm so that the baby can be born. That is, a penis of any size can enter an organ that can widen that much. Vaginismus is a treatable condition. I apply hypnosis-supported holistic psychotherapy and I solve the problem in a few sessions.
