Myths About Hypnosis

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis in psychotherapy. For example, if you use cognitive therapy under hypnosis, this therapy is called “Cognitive Hypnotherapy”. Most hypnotherapists have successfully used analytical treatment methods under hypnosis. Therefore, hypnosis is a method that can be used in all treatment methods and that accelerates, facilitates, and makes treatment more comfortable. For example, hypnotherapy can be used for a fear of flying.

A behavioral method is very effective in treatment. However, for this to happen, this person needs to get on an airplane. When such fears are encountered, practice can be done in simulators. In hypnosis, with the help of an experienced hypnotherapist with imagination, you can use your imagination anywhere and eliminate this fear.

5. Hypnosis depends on the participant’s skills and abilities, as well as hypnotic ability.

6. While under hypnosis, hypnotic induction is a mildly increased sensitivity.

7. Direct hypnotic techniques are as effective as indirect suggestions.

8. Clients retain their ability to control their behavior, refuse to respond to suggestions, and even act contrary.

9. Failure to remember during a session (amnesia) is very rare.

10. Absolute contraindications are very few. It can also be used as an additional method for paranoid mental illnesses such as acute psychosis. It should not be used for severe intellectual disability and dementia.

    Hypnosis Is Not A Treatment

Hypnosis is not a form of treatment, but a technique that helps treatment. It should not be seen as a magical treatment for problems that the therapist cannot cope with. The traditional rule is this:  A condition that cannot be treated without hypnosis cannot be treated with hypnosis treatment. Anyone can perform hypnosis, but no hypnotist can apply hypnosis treatment for a field in which they have not received training or expertise. Such an attempt is unethical all over the world. Therefore, it is not possible for a hypnotherapist who is not a psychologist to treat clients with psychiatric disorders.

Thoughts such as “All my problems will be solved in the session, and everything will be fine when you relax and feel comfortable.” are wrong. With this expectation, underestimating problems or too many symptoms emerge in a single session. Unfortunately, this expectation cannot be confirmed by any medication treatment or any psychotherapy method. Psychological and psychiatric treatment takes at least a few sessions. If a quick response is expected, hopelessness may arise. You need desire, investment, and patience.

    Does Nothing Change With Psychotherapy?

Hopelessness is on the opposite side of psychotherapy and intense expectations, and internal change, devaluation, and weak insight are high. Depressed and hopeless people cannot recover even with the help of a psychotherapist. First of all, the desire must begin within the person. The aim in psychotherapy is to help the person find solutions to problems in the external world, focus on objects and life, understand their inner world, and get rid of problems that hinder normal development. People who want to remain passive, do not want to participate in therapy, and want the therapist to do everything can change many things in their lives. Those who think of therapy as a mechanical process believe that a bad part of their inner world or a bad memory they want to forget can be changed and healed with hypnosis. Hypnosis allows unconscious memories that are pushed into the subconscious and cannot be remembered to come out. The more active the person is and the more they cooperate, the better the quality of therapy becomes.

Is There A 100% Recovery Guarantee In Psychotherapy?

There are many conscious and unconscious factors that are effective in successfully completing the psychotherapy process. No one can guarantee you 100% recovery and time. Claims such as you will be completely cured in 3 sessions are false. If you encounter such assertive statements and promises, you should be more careful about hypnosis treatment and should not believe them.
